Monuments & Memorials
Vlkolínec – is a folk architecture monument reservation which is recorded in the World Cultural Heritage List (1993). The village itself is also part of the Large Fatra National Park and is situated under the peak Sidorovo. Rare buildings of note are the log bell tower from 1770, the log well from 1860 and the brick church of the Virgin Mary from 1875. There is also a museum object in the village – Roľnícky dom (peasant house) with a display of original housing and living.
Špania Valley – a folk architecture reservation with buildings, and technical and cultural landmarks that can be found only a few kilometres from Donovaly. The technical landmarks (Cisárska štôlňa, štôlňa „MANN“, Banský vodovod, Šachta Maximilián, ...) can accessed via the Malý náučný banský okruh (small mining educational trail) which is 4.5 kms long and has 10 educational boards along it.
Staré hory – originally the oldest mining village, today it is a pilgrimage site and is regarded as the centre of religion in Slovakia. Pilgrimages are regularly held here – the first Saturday of each month, around August 15th and on Turíce.
