Alpine hiking offers an abundance of beautiful and unforgettable experiences. So that your holiday budget is protected against unforeseen expenses Union Insurance have prepared an insurance policy to cover any costs in the event of Mountain Rescue being called out.

From July 1 2006 a new regulation in the Law on Mountain Rescue Service according to which any person who is the reason for Mountain Rescue to carry out a rescue operation or search is liable for all costs for said actions.

Our insurance policy covers all costs for:

• necessary operations of mountain erscue concerning search and rescue of insured persons in need
• offering first aid
• transportation to the nearest medical facility (e.g. also by helicopter)

3 levels of insurance can be taken out at the Information centre Štrbské Pleso.

Tourist - The policy covers persons using walkable terrain, above the tree line and on marked trails or paths.

Sport – The policy covers persons using walkable terrain, on marked trails or paths, above the tree line and also off marked trails or paths, on mountain climbing terrain up to Level I difficulty UIAA or when carrying out the following activities: operating winter sports outside of marked ski trails with the exception of ski touring.

Sport special – The policy covers persons using walkable terrain, on marked trails or paths, above the tree line and also off marked trails or paths, on mountain climbing terrain Level II to IV difficulty UIAA, in caving environment if it concerns speleology exercises or when carrying out the following activities: ski touring, parachute jumping, parasailing, paragliding, scuba diving, sports flying, rafting, canyoning

Insurance costs:
Tourist – 0.50 EUR / person / day
Sport – 1.00 EUR / person / day
Sport special – 1.33 EUR / person / day
